The first question that you could pose to yourself reader is why do i write it in English this review because I’m  preparing to write a short continuation and I had already wrote in Swedish and now I want to go more into a more detailed analyse  The film from 1986 is still extent and worth seeing but this is a totality different. Giacomo Battiato chose to focus with a really sure and clean direction on the context in which the crime story take place the fight between the German based imperator and the pope that in that time 1347 had been taked into captivity in South France Avignon. The pope is this particular series is Johan XXII paly by Tchéky Karyo , the style is natural but alo full of proud and full of himself with a big charisma. It is the use of light that is the main difference from the 1984 movie is the use of a much lighter photography and a more clear contest to give the idea of the majesty of the place. John Conroy is the PhD that’s work really well with a rather aggressive editing by Stephen O'Connell that work explicitly well with the dramatic music store by Vorlker Bertelsmann full of leif motive. The first image is a battle a hard and bloody violent mêlée between the franc and the imperial army that used the rich Italy as a battle ground. There is one man that isn’t at all interesting in the fight and it is a young knight play by Damian Hardung that is the young Adso of melk the story teller. We see two main influence in this central part of the young hero the one of hamlet with this searching and the bad relationship with the father that her is very hard coking in the good performance by Sebastian Kock. He is a hard man that out both his son Also that has decide to give away the warlike career in army to enter the church after that his father presented him a woman much more that a slave ianca a model Camilla Diana. Adso is already from the beginning not interest in violence and he undress himself from the mail and the gambeson to start the life he wanted into religion. This scene is that not said and may not even wrote from Eco but give even more proud and more substance to the charter. We see it in the first episode but also in the second one when this kind of choice isn’t that one of Siant Francis but a way to escape. The scen in wchich Also goes into the maze and find the book with the miniatures is really interest because he find there the uncanny the door to his subconscious. I want to point out one thing Eco’s writing is the one of a semiology’s and he come into the sould of the character towards the description the sign. Battiato instead come into image that show the fear and there is a scene that is central when after the several meting with the girl plat by Felicia Foras a super beauty the abys open after the chat with Jorge from Burgos the enemy and the antagonist play by James Cosmo. This is a really interest choice because the element Scottish actor is play a particular monk similar  several worriers soldier part. Hard expertise blind but the one that can still move still own the place and it is the palce himself with the necessity of guarding a secret. One particular world frase is used as a quote from Eco “This place was fortes” . Could Borges had been a woriiedr that was searching something else and has decide to hide it not so much from a man with a supreme intact William od Baskerville but and other Alinardo da Grotaferrata play by one of the finest Italian and European actors Roberto Herlitzka son of the Czech primary minister before war world two. This man is play with class intensity and chose to be fool when it isn’t it. The contact with the abode with all his luxery all his way of pretending being a charismatic and serious church man is done with a excellent capacity by Michael Emerson . Even if it is a sinfull man only interest in power he isn’t precisely like Jorges so negative because he really believ and it show in a scene in one of the cells when we see a painting of the Italian late gothic and his adoration toward a gothic Madonna. Beside the pope the negativity of a extreme cruel and not tolerant church is shown by beranrdo Gui and excellent Rupert Everett . this wonderful actor is always know for brilliant and tragic part but here he succeed in showing a terrible man full of hate of power and with a mixture aof both sadism and sarcastic. But as we did with .. in Stanley Kubrick “Paths of glory” it is the same with Rupert Everett’s Berando Gui. He truly believe that he is serving a hight proposal that he is serving a hight God and civilisation. After the fall of the Roman empire or provocateur by that a lot of the Roman law the interest in keeping the old civilisation was moved to the catholic church mostly in the look. We see two times the mixture of the good and great villain that is so important for showing his contempt into time when the pope shows a crucifix with a heavy bourse and when he discover a woman that is having love red hair Laura Martelli with a peasant a woman and he makes fun mostly on her than on him. This scene is for me one of the best in his simplicity and his rawness. This two episodes are made for the big fight between Gui and Guglielm a trie Christian intellectual play by John Tuttiro. Both physical and with the much more lay down style Tutturo is a kind of anti Sean Connery. We see a really big difference between the two Connory was actually playing a Sherlock Homes in frai dress while Turturo play a frair that is discovering a mystery and he show humility love to freedom and knowledge that we can have in it. The main antagonist is the former heretic ramingo play by Fabrizio Bentivoglio. This is very hard man that has had several problem and it is forced to lieve in a place that he hates. Thank to him we see the former life with the big rebellion by Fra Dolcino Paly very well by Alesio Boni a hard warlord and his life Margehrita of Trento play by a mixture of a Lolita and Sofia Lorene Greta Scarno i. That show a lot of versatility, Sexy and mother other and even a god worrier the real main actor much more that Aso that is a rather feeble character. It is a excellent work in which we see several other good part like the other monk a really sad Berengario play by Maurizio Lombardi. This character have one kind of sadness of the old lover that hasn’t succeed in getting what he wanted. It is the same for Malachia of Hindeslheim play by Richard Sammel and the most difficult part pf all Salvatore the beat man paly by Stefano Frisai. This part was thought to Franco Franchi one of the best Italian comedian ever bu the refused and it was done very well by Rob Palm. Here Frisia play a kind of Quasimodo. Than we have the older part the girl a beauty from Provence play by Antonia Fotaras that represent love innocence and the courtesy age. This was really very short. There is also the modern man that want to study to have is curiosity satisfy that is the Swedish monks Bencio from Uppsala. When I read the book I find him really irritate the less niece of all in Benjamin Stender. He presented a great part full of ambivalence an true in a wonderful production
