Interview with Antonio Baiocco

The Italian film industry has been under several occasion one of the most important in all the history. Some own on the Western movie industry has been the only one that could have made a really competition against the Anglo American super power. This sentences could seems like a really bad an unjust statement against other Wester or Europe film culture like the German, The Danish , the Dutch, the swedes and mostly against the French that has succeed in producing several works that has shown a really good and hardworking industry that in some case as also deep influence the Italian one but first I have also to define the mean of a film industry a production system that in several kind of genre system has been able to produce several work that are really good in a different genre. One director that has succeed in incarnating in a good day the great and difficult work of the industrial is Atonio Baiocco that has made several great film. He has agree to make this interview for us

 

 

How did you get the idea of becoming a film director?

 

It was so that my dream was to be a pilot not a film director. . it was so that i started to work as a cameraman in the Italian TV and from that get born my idea to make a movie A love story tan I want to get more and more deep inside the

 

-Could you tell us something about your first movie?

 

The first film is always a be big challenge  for us. . I got production help from Mibac con cui ho realizzato SULLE ALI DELLA FOLLIA.  It is a strong and difficult love story settle under the darkest time of the Italian fascism government, a lot story between two person with mental dishes. I get several prizes and give me the certitude that i could continue my journey.  

 

Could you tell to me a my reader the genesis of the movie “passaggio in paradiso

 

PASSAGGIO PER IL PARADISisthis film that is my favourite baby. In it i have had an excellent cast with  Julie Harris e Tchery Karyo, Mariano Rigillo e Vittoria Belvedere. Music score but di Pat  Metheny  con un co-produced like    David Bowie. It was been distributed in The USA and I have had several award to some festival like Montreal international, Fort Lauderdale etc.

 

What about “Il Mercante di Stoffe”?

 

Il Mercante di Stoffe has been a work with several difficulties n the production the most part of the interior scenes has been shoot in Cinnecittà and the exterior in Morocco. I must say that the Moroccan production has been delightful really super professional and super in a country that loves peace and respect all for of religious diversity. We had on our department a red bicycle. . When we were supposed to shoot the scene we couldn’t found the bicycle. , so we were forced to improvising another scene. That was really good and that when we were driving back we saw a a small kids that was riding a red bike I was happy theta he was happy as well.  At least the bike was good for something.

 

 

 

How do you work with the casting process?

 

I let my assistance do the first section and in the mean while I want to know more the actorsFor me is the of capital importance to know the two side of a coin to know the actor first and as second to know more of him that she or he is able to represented t the character both physical and also on a characters point of view  

 

What about the Italian cinema now?

 

Well I think that the Italian cinema after several difficult times is trying to make again an identity in shooting several genre cinema. It is difficult to do it

 

Could you give some suggestion to some young director?

 

- Giving suggestion I really don’t like it and it is not my task I can only say if you got a passion work as hard as you can with it and follow it ; you may also fail but you could say I’ve tried !

 

Could you say us something about the use of music score?

 

Music and cinema they are like the same wigs of the same bird what would have been Ennio Moriccone without Sergio Leone o viceversa? The two art should hopeful been smelt to give emotion that would have smelt it all together .AI really like to live space to music, not only some kind of small piece that gives some space into a wilder context .Like the editing the music is really important to give the rhythm to the work to give the peculiar sense to the work and make the difference between a good movie and a masterpiece .  .

 

Could you say something about the project the read death?

 

REDEATH èis a an amazing thriller I ‘m looking for the co-production and hopefully to have the budget for it.

 

 What do you know about the new Swedish film?

 

From Ingmar Bergman until today The Swedish cinema has had a cries, for me not so different from the Italian one I guess that today there are several excellent young filmmaker that are sending a lot of new life into the Italian cinema
