Few filmmaker have been so engaged in their own country like the Tavini’s brother and they are a smile for a great old school way of doing film that would remember about a poor but rich cinemas of such heroes like the first Roberto Rosellini, Federico Fellini and before filmmaker like Jean Renoirs and Charlie Chaplin with a a great model DW Griffith that has also been a character in one of their work “Good morning Babylonia”. It is almost astonish how they succeed in making a very similar film to their previous production but yet so modern and even sexy for a younger audience. It is a movie about the dirty civil war fought under war world II in Italy between 1943 and 1945 based on a novel by Bepe Foligno settle in Langhe a agar reason nearby Turin. The photography of Simone Zampagni is modern but yet influenced in a violent contrast between light and shadows by Michelangelo Mendiri of Carvaggio’s painting and yet with a fog that let us be lost like the two main character and their drama Milton a rather reflexive intellectual play by Luca Martinelli a really talented actor that loves the British romantic literature and his friends rival play by the Netflix star Lorenzo Richelmy . Milton is translating the novel by Emily  Brôente “Wuthering Heightsand he dream about being like . Heathcliff:. We see it when he goes into the house in which he had the first love with Fluvia play by the sexy Lolita like Valentina Bellè . this character is provoking but yet seam to see Milton more as a friends very close one but yet a friends and prefer the more light the blond and elegant Giorgio and  we see it very well in the way as she dances with him. The generation of Northern Italian intellectual hostile to fascism and his rawness and vulgarity is attached by the British American culture the jazz music that we see full the space of the elegant high society summer house with Judy garden immortal “Over the rainbow” play on a gramophone that Milton touched when he come as a partisan with his dirty hands. Milton is not the same boy that we meet with Giorgio also in the beautiful scene in which he stay down when Giorgio and Fulvia crest on a three and the wing lift her shirt but not yet a man and all the movie is a journey in his mentality his psyche that is broken. This journey succeed in several time when we see how he goes back both in this mind but also in the rather archaically and medieval landscape of the Langhe with the meeting with his parents and the several small saccharomyces with the black battles the fascist army. The editing is used as always like in other Paolo Taviani’s film in a very good way to make soft moves into film’s different plans.  Giorgio is different and yet similar the perfect gentleman but also a brat that keeps always a distance towards the other partisan because of his other sensibility and he seems to be a Hollywood male star from this period explicitly in the scene in a truck in which he is salvage beaten. The other partisan are like a choir in a Greek tragedy like Ivan extremely well played by Giulio Beranek  and there is also a fool a fascist that is like a Elizabethan clown play by Andrea Di Maria that mime to play a drum. The partisan with their long hairs and the beer are very similar to the 1800 patriot that we meet in another Taviani’s brother movie “Alo enfantes”. The power of this movie is like the fascist are presented with Josafat Vagni that has to kill an hostage the young Jim well play by Jacopo Olmo Antinoricist understand that this I wrong. The scene is like all the film simple and terrible and it is the most horror full shooting I have ever seen. . So Giorgio is so few time in the screen but yert central how was it to paly this part?

Well it was a mysterious guy that is the allegro of the main character it is a great part and I was so glad to work in such a good old school movie by the Tavinis brother. When I started to get part I made an audition for them to play a part in Boccacciso’s Decameron. The audition that they make are quite special because they are only based on improvisation and I get that part. I thought it was big but I get a huge offer from the USA to play the  leading part in Marco polo. It was before “games of Throndes” the most expensive USA TV series ever. It was a hard experience based mostly on stress secured and not so much creativity instead the work with Paolo was really different. We discus a lot a shoot one scen par day.

Unfortunately Vittorio the other brother died this year was he actve in this movie?

He was already sick and wasn’t on the sett but he was yet there because Paolo send to him all the preview and they discuss and he discus with me. If we think about the modern film the American one that I don’t find in the American one they are all about super hero about the same kind of history. Sometimes I feel that they are more like some Videogames. I think we have to go back to this kind of cinema like the one of Rosellini and Fellini. It is a harder kind of cinema. Is like to read work of Lev Tolstoy it is great and difficult.

Where you influence by this guys to become a actor?

More by tarnation that is a bit of an Italian director himself because he is deeply influence by some old good Italian movie like Roselini and Fellini. That guy was amazing he phoned to wake his actor. But my favourite is without any doubt Mario Monicelli and his comedy and comedy is really hard

Will you direct something yourself?

Ya but in the theatre that I love it is more my feel because Cinema is for director , theatre for actor and television for the other
